{"id":215,"date":"2017-02-13T22:00:39","date_gmt":"2017-02-13T22:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/fer\/?page_id=215"},"modified":"2025-05-28T13:16:51","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T17:16:51","slug":"scholarships","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/fer\/undergraduate\/scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"Scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/fer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2017\/02\/CNR_0019_cnr_stock-1912-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"jordan addition\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Forestry and Environmental Resources Scholarships<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources (FER) aims to provide students with academic merit or financial need with support to attend NC State.&nbsp;Our departmental scholarships operate independently from the university-wide merit scholarship program, the college-wide program and the various federal, state and private programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To be considered for a departmental scholarship, students must be a current FER student or an accepted for admission as a full-time NC State undergraduate student in our Department in one of the following majors: Environmental Sciences (ES), Environmental Technology and Management (ETM), Forest Management (FOM), Natural Resources (NRE or NRP) or Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology (SFW, SFF or FWCB). Your first major of double majors must also be in FER.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of Scholarships<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources Scholarship Program provides three types of awards: Academic Scholarship, Summer Camp Scholarships and Work Scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Academic Scholarships<\/strong> are competitively awarded based on academic merit and leadership, but financial need is also considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minimum standards for incoming high school graduates are an un-weighted grade point average of 3.750 (based on a 4-point scale), a combined SAT score of 1250 on the math and verbal sections or a score of 25 on the ACT.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transfer and current students must have a total grade point average of at least 3.500 (on a 4-point scale).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic Scholarships usually provide $4,000 &#8211; $6,000 per year, although additional funding is sometimes available to out-of-state students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic scholarships may be renewed for the minimum number of additional semesters required to complete the current major, but not more than three additional years, provided the recipient does not change majors and earns a total grade point average of 3.500 or better.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"is-text wp-block-ncst-buttons\">\n    \n<div class=\"wp-block-ncst-button\">\n      <a\n        class=\"ncst-block__button-link btn\"\n        href=\"https:\/\/ncsu.academicworks.com\/\"\n        data-ncst-lightbox=\"false\"\n                      >\n                  <span class=\"text\">Apply for Academic Scholarships<\/span><span class=\"arrow-indicator\"><svg class=\"wolficon wolficon-arrow-right-bold\" role=\"img\"  aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<use xlink:href=\"#wolficon-arrow-right-bold\">\n\t\t<\/svg><\/span>\n              <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Summer Camp Scholarships<\/strong> are competitively awarded based on academic merit to students attending Forestry or Wildlife Summer Camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A grade point average of at least 2.5 (on a 4-point scale) is required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summer Camp Scholarships usually provide $500- $1,500 toward tuition and fees at either Forestry or Wildlife Summer Camp.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summer Camp Scholarship applications will be distributed at the Summer Camp Information Meeting in the spring. This meeting is mandatory before attending <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/fer\/undergraduate\/internships-and-summer-camp\/\">Summer Camp<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Work Scholarships<\/strong> are competitively awarded based on academic merit, leadership and ability to perform or willingness to learn forest management activities such as prescribed fire, timber inventory, road maintenance, boundary line marking, record keeping and mapping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applicants must be willing to work on most Saturdays.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A total grade point average of at least 2.5 (on a 4-point scale) is required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work Scholarships provide up to $4,800 per year, but require up to 240 hours of work on one of the college-owned forests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recipients are paid biweekly at the rate of $16 to 20 per hour until the max award has been earned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"is-text
