Two professors at NC State\u2019s College of Natural Resources have been named 2021 Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the largest general scientific society in the world. <\/p>\n
Jason Delborne<\/a> and Mary Watzin<\/a>, both of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources, are among the 564 scientists, engineers and innovators<\/a> from around the world to be recognized as 2021 AAAS Fellows for their \u201cscientifically and socially distinguished achievements.\u201d A total of eight NC State faculty members were elected this year.<\/p>\n \u201cAAAS is proud to honor these individuals who represent the kind of forward thinking the scientific enterprise needs, while also inspiring hope for what can be achieved in the future,\u201d said Sudip Parikh, AAAS chief executive officer and executive publisher of the Science<\/em> family of journals, in a press release<\/a>. <\/p>\n Delborne is a professor of science, policy and society in the Chancellor\u2019s Faculty Excellence Program, a University Faculty Scholar, and the director of NC State\u2019s Science Technology and Society program. He is being recognized for \u201cexceptional contributions to the understanding and practice of public engagement for the governance of emerging environmental technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAs an interdisciplinary scholar who doesn\u2019t fit neatly into traditional academic boxes, I\u2019m really honored to have my contributions recognized by the premier science organization in the United States,\u201d Delborne said. \u201cI\u2019m also excited to contribute to the AAAS mission of promoting science for the public good, in the broadest sense.\u201d<\/p>\n
