Roger studies cognition, metacognition, affect, and motivation during learning and problem solving in laboratory and real-world settings (e.g., STEM classrooms, medical simulations); he focuses on understanding complex interactions between humans and intelligent learning systems (e.g., intelligent tutoring systems, serious games, hypermedia), by designing these systems to detect, track, model and foster learners’, teachers’ and trainers’ self-regulatory processes. Roger is a Professor of Psychology and Associate Faculty in the Department of Computer Science. He joined NC State in August 2013 as a Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program cluster hire in the Digital Transformation of Education cluster.
