Reception to Honor Dr. Hugh Devine set for Friday, December 5, 2014

Longtime advocate of the geospatial sciences at NC State, Dr. Hugh Devine, will be retiring effective January 1, 2015, after 37 years of outstanding University service. A reception to honor Hugh and his contributions to the Center for Geospatial Analytics, PRTM, the College, and the University will be held on Friday, Dec. 5 from 1:30pm – 2:30pm in Jordan Hall 5119.

Hugh is the former Director of the former Center for Earth Observation (now the Center for Geospatial Analytics) and is the current Director of Technology for the Center for Geospatial Analytics.  In addition to his outstanding professorship and service as a university citizen, Hugh was instrumental in establishing several prominent and successful academic programs at NC State:

  • the PhD in PRTM
  • the Master of Natural Resources
  • the Graduate Certificate in GIS
  • the professional science Masters of Geospatial Information Science and Technology
  • the graduate minors in GIS and Environmental Remote Sensing
  • the Center for Earth Observation
  • the Geovisualization Lab

And most recently, Hugh helped gain approval to establish a new interdisciplinary PhD in Geospatial Analytics.   Please plan to attend the Dec. 5 reception to honor Hugh’s achievements and service and to wish him well.
