She was also on the team that won the Center\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/celebrating-our-community-spring2023\/\">Collaboration &amp; Innovation Award<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Izzi Hinks<\/strong> won the Center\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/celebrating-our-community-spring2023\/\">Gladys West Award<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jamie Huerta<\/strong> was accepted into the 2022\u201323 Rachel Carson Campus Fellows program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Margaret Lawrimore<\/strong> received an Honorable Mention in the Graphics &amp; Data Visualization category of the NC State <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ncsu.edu\/2022\/08\/envisioning-research-winners-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022 Envisioning Research Contest<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Martine Mathieu<\/strong> received a Student Meeting Attendance Grant from SETAC and an internship with the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Emory University.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shannon McAvoy<\/strong> was named an AGU Thriving Earth Exchange Community Science Fellow. She also won the Center\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/celebrating-our-community-spring2023\/\">Advocate Award<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Katie McQuillan<\/strong> won the Center\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/celebrating-our-community-spring2023\/\">Beacon Award<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Uchenna Osia<\/strong> received a Travel Grant from ACM SIGSPATIAL and was accepted into the Yale Environmental Fellows program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Christina Perella<\/strong> was named a Global Change Graduate Fellow through the Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center and received an IALE-NA Travel Award. She also received a University Graduate Fellowship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vini Perin<\/strong> was on the team that won the Center\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/celebrating-our-community-spring2023\/\">Collaboration &amp; Innovation Award<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ariel Saffer<\/strong> received an honorable mention for a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Felipe Sanchez<\/strong> received a conference travel award from the Comparative Medicine Institute.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Varun Tiwari<\/strong> was on the team that won the Center\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/celebrating-our-community-spring2023\/\">Collaboration &amp; Innovation Award<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Corey White<\/strong> was accepted to summer 2023 cohort of the RIoT Accelerator Program for startups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Alex Yoshizumi<\/strong> won the poster competition in the \u201cManagement &amp; Policies\u201d category (for Ph.D. students) at the CNR Graduate Research Symposium with his poster \u201cA Tool for Assessing Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Across Emergency Evacuation Scenarios.\u201d He was also named NC State\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/2023\/04\/13\/alex-yoshizumi-eip-student-of-the-year\/\">2023 Esri Innovation Program (EIP) Student of the Year<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Popular Press<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Martine Mathieu<\/strong>\u2019s receipt of a K.C. Technology (MGIST) Students<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Over the academic year, 39 students collaborated with <strong>29 community\/industry partners<\/strong> to develop geospatial solutions as part of their <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/tag\/service-learning\/\">service-learning capstone experience<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/ncsu.edu\/mgistfall2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fall 2022<\/a> and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/ncsu.edu\/mgistspring2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spring 2023<\/a>&nbsp;semesters, graduating MGIST students competed in a poster competition to showcase their service-learning projects:&nbsp;<strong>Hannah Swartz<\/strong> won in Fall 2022, and&nbsp;<strong>Dallas Hoffman<\/strong>&nbsp;won in Spring 2023.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jeremy Davis<\/strong> was NC State\u2019s graduate student winner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/2023\/02\/10\/2023-herb-stout-student-award-winners\/\">G. Herbert Stout Award<\/a> for Innovative Student Papers, representing the university at the NC GIS Conference in March 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Graduate Certificate in GIS Students<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Myleigh Neill<\/strong> won the Center\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/geospatial\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/celebrating-our-community-spring2023\/\">Creativity in Teaching Award<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Geospatial Graduate Student Organization (GGSO)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The GGSO is a university-recognized community that supports all graduate students affiliated with the Center, both on-campus and online. Led by students for students, the GGSO advances networking in the geospatial community, provides a platform for research and offers social events. This year, the GGSO:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Planned and coordinated a week-long series of professional development events for GIS Week 2022, including a kickoff networking event, four workshops, and three research roundtable lunches featuring 12 Faculty Fellows.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organized nine Lunch &amp; Learn workshops as part of their &#8220;Getting Data, Big and Small&#8221; series, all but one of which were led or co-led by Geospatial Analytics Ph.D. students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hosted a variety of social events intended to bring together members of the Center community: a Welcome Picnic at Raleigh Brewing Company in August 2022, regular post-Geospatial Forum socials, and group outings to 21+ Nights at Marbles Children\u2019s Museum, the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, NC State Fair, and sports events. Led by students for students, the GGSO advances networking in the geospatial community, provides a platform for research and offers social events. This year, the GGSO:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Planned and coordinated a week-long series of professional development events for GIS Week 2022, including a kickoff networking event, four workshops, and three research roundtable lunches featuring 12 Faculty Fellows.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Organized nine Lunch &amp; Learn workshops as part of their \"Getting Data, Big and Small\" series, all but one of which were led or co-led by Geospatial Analytics Ph.D. students.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>Hosted a variety of social events intended to bring together members of the Center community: a Welcome Picnic at Raleigh Brewing Company in August 2022, regular post-Geospatial Forum socials, and group outings to 21+ Nights at Marbles Children\u2019s Museum, the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, NC State Fair, and sports events.
