POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direct supervision of the Sr. Director of Member Engagement the Aquatics Director is responsible for the overall programming and staffing of indoor and outdoor pools of the Kerr Family YMCA. The Aquatics Director is responsible for creating a welcoming, safe, highly engaging, and highly developmental program space. They create an inclusive culture that serves both members and participants as they look to grow in confidence and skill, all while fostering an exceptional feel of community at the pools. They will be responsible for managing such functions in accordance with the stated mission and polices established by the administrative staff, governing committees and Board of Directors of the YMCA.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Creates an incredible, inclusive environment for members and participants in all aspects of the Aquatics departments across the assigned region.

  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.Leads an innovative and welcoming swim lesson program, stroke school, summer swim teams, and specialty programming, effectively serving children and adults at all skill levels.

  • Helps to plan, coordinate and implement periodic member recognition events in collaboration with the Member Engagement Team.

  • Recruits and hires staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.

  • Ensures that all Aquatics staff members are up-to-date at all times on all certifications necessary for their jobs.

  • Schedules, trains and manages staff for all aquatic programs. Ensures timesheets are correct and processed for payroll in a timely fashion.

  • Oversees daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

  • Ensures compliance with YUSA and Association Program Guidelines. Conducts regular rescue ready audits as part of ongoing risk management.
    Builds, oversees and administers the aquatics budget to ensure fiscal responsibility for the aquatics department.

  • Maintains a current Certified Pool Operator’s license and be attuned to all general aspects of pool operations to ensure quality for all of the programs at the pools.

  • Serves as a representative of the branches on a variety of committees and participates in Aquatics IQ team.

  • Responsible for being a leader in the branch’s Annual Campaign.  This includes but is not limited to; recruiting and managing highly committed volunteers, leading teams for the annual campaign at various levels and raising money.

  • Participates as part of branches adult programs leadership team.

  • Serves as part of the Leadership Engagement Team with includes working evenings and weekends outside of regularly schedule time in Aquatics.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, pull and push.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Hearing within normal range, with or without accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks.
Must have Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
The YMCA of the Triangle requires employees to comply with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question.
Local travel, weekend and evening hours are required.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and/ or 4-5 years of related experience.
Experienced and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs
Possess a high level of initiative and superior communication skills and presence to effectively manage the staff, programs and schedule of the department.
Experienced and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs
Exceptional oral, public speaking and written communication skills
Ability to attract, lead, motivate and retain quality staff.
Ability to work in collaboration with community partners.
Proven track record in developing new programs as well as reviewing and enhancing existing programs that are both fiscally viable and effective.
Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational, analytical and project management skills.
Requires a positive attitude, high level of professionalism and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Multi-lingual desired but not required.
