This position is a full-time position in the Active Duty Air Force as a Commissioned Officer. Please read the description and determine if this is something you would be interested in doing. The career is focused overall on Bioenvironmental Engineering but would also place you according to your specialty in various job duties and responsibilities i.e., Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, etc.
Bioenvironmental engineers assess occupational and environmental health risks to eliminate or minimize health threats to Air Force personnel wherever they operate. They evaluate and approve potable and non-potable water systems and sources to determine health risks associated with water quality. Bioenvironmental engineers supervise bioenvironmental engineering technicians and work with physicians, public health officers, base civil engineers, safety officers and emergency management personnel while acting as liaison with local, state and federal health and pollution control agencies. During contingency operations they respond to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) health threats to identify, evaluate and control health hazards and advise leaders on how to minimize risks. Medical and Health Physicists specialize in radiation safety aspects of nuclear medicine, nuclear materials, and other aspects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Bioenvironmental engineers specializing in architecture / medical construction represent the Air Force surgeon general in all matters concerning the planning, programming, design and construction of Air Force medical facilities. In addition, they provide architectural and engineering consultative services for Air Force medical facilities worldwide.
