 The Forest Planning Manager will lead Rayonier’s Land Information Services (LIS) team in delivering harvest schedules that support Rayonier’s business needs (i.e. long range plan - LRP, acquisitions, dispositions) and property management objectives.  Collaborating with the team and/or contractors they will use appropriate base data to develop harvest schedule models that are timely, accurate, regionally relevant and appropriately vetted to support the development of a robust business plan (DCF valuation model).  This will be accomplished for current ownership as well as acquisition and disposition candidates in a way that fully values the timber, non-timber and land sales potential of the subject property.  The manager will work collaboratively with Rayonier functional groups including LIS, Land Asset Management (LAM), United States Forest Resources (USFR) and Raydient (real estate).


Primary Responsibilities: 


Prepares long-term harvest schedules for each distinct timberland region and presents the key assumptions, sensitivities and results to USFR, LAM and Raydient teams. Evaluates improvements and alternative approaches to forest planning including communication of results and spatial constraints.  Presents and distributes schedules to each Resource Unit and incorporates feedback.
Develops harvest schedules to support Rayonier’s acquisition needs. Collaborates with Forest Biometrics Team on the creation of yields and other harvest schedule inputs.  Works closely with LAM and others in LIS to implement and verify harvest scheduling assumptions.
Ensures good alignment of harvest scheduling assumptions used for both current ownership analysis as well as acquisition analysis.
Develops and monitors metrics to understand harvest schedule compliance; implements changes to improve performance.
Develops and maintains a network of regionally specific contract service providers to support harvest scheduling needs.
Leads harvest scheduling team in preparing the annual Strategic Long Range Plan for Rayonier.
Assists with the annual SFI reporting requirements and the periodic SFI program audits performed by accredited 3rd party auditors.
Provides additional analytical and GIS support as required.
Required Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in forestry.
Prefer at least five (5) years of experience in harvest planning with at least three years of Remsoft Woodstock model building (or equivalent) experience.
Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Required skills/knowledge in harvest scheduling, linear programming, computation of forest yields, computer and geographic information systems, and a thorough understanding of forest economics and regional resource analysis.
Proficiency in Remsoft software (Woodstock), Microsoft Office, and ArcGIS. Thorough understanding and experience with database management systems (SQL Server).
