Description

NCSU College of Natural Resources Forest Assets Team (FA) is seeking a highly motivated person to fill the role of Solcum Camp Caretaker at the Slocum Camp Facilities located in Hill Forest in Bahama, North Carolina. This role is a temporary part-time position. The person will assist FA with daily, weekly, and seasonal tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of Slocum Camp and serve as onsite contact for groups visiting Slocum Camp. This job requires a self-motivated person with very little supervision and skills related to facilities maintenance. While not a requirement, preference will be given to applicants that live in the general vicinity of Slocum Camp as to have the ability to be onsite with short notice. All materials, tools, supplies, and instruction will be provided by FA.


Work Schedule
Work hours are flexible. Particular work hours are dependent on season, maintenance needs, and visiting group schedules, as well as the availability of the candidate. Current expected weekly work load is less than 10 hours. Not to exceed 20 hrs/week.
Other Work/Responsibilities
All responsibilities for this position are exclusive to Slocum Camp at Hill Forest.
Provide on-site contact for visitors at Slocum Camp on Hill Forest, including service contractors, NCSU faculty, or other camp visitors.
Provide occasional maintenance services to facilities at Slocum Camp, including carpentry, plumbing, power washing, and painting.
Provide oversite and inventory of facility supplies, including paper products, cleaning supplies, and heating gas.
Communicate camp needs to FA.
Ensure camp facilities are prepared ahead of visitor events.
Ensure camp facilities are secure after events and during weekends.
Winterize water supply system for camp facilities.
Seasonal yard and deck cleaning.
Perform post-work inspections on tasks completed by outside contractors and/or NCSU personnel.
Manage facility usage records for onsite CCNC crews.
 




This position will be scheduled and supervised by FA.
The primary supervisor will be the Forest Manager.
Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma and one year experience in related field.
Department Required Skills
Lift 30 pounds
Operate hand tools, both power and manual
Walk up and downhill
Proficient communication, both written and oral.
