The North Carolina Forest Service is a team of professionals who provide forest protection, emergency response, resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of North Carolina through a variety of programs.  The NC Forest Service provides services to the 100 counties in North Carolina.
The purpose of Bladen Lakes State Forest is to develop, protect, manage, and supervise operations for the +33,000 acres, self-supporting Bladen Lakes State Forest through professional stewardship while enhancing the knowledge of forestry practices for our citizens and ensuring the continuity of this vital resource.
The primary responsibilities of the employee in this position are to coordinate longleaf pine straw production with contracted straw sales, support forest management activities, firefighting, and maintaining of safety efforts.
Other responsibilities include maintenance of the roads and firebreaks on the forest utilizing a wide variety of farm equipment with some heavy equipment.  The employee maintains cross training and proficiency in the operation of equipment in case another machine operator is sick or on leave.

Mandatory pre-employment drug test if the selected candidate has a CDL.
Duty Station Location:  Bladen Lakes State Forest, 4470 Hwy 242 N, Elizabethtown, NC 28337
Official NC Forest Service uniform and a State-owned vehicle will be provided to support everyday job responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic knowledge of forest management practices and wildfire suppression.
Ability to operate farm and/or fire-related equipment such as different-size tractors, dozers and dump trucks. 
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
Must be self-motivated and a team player.
Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.


Working knowledge of ArcGIS and GPS applications,
Successful completion of basic wildland fire training S-130/S-190,
Possession of NC Commercial Driver License (CDL),

Associate s degree in forest management or an environmental or natural science curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution;

or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related experience in providing forestry services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification Possession of a valid North Carolina driver s license required within 90 days of hire.
