Description

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for managing large and small-scale manufacturing projects, including new product development. Responsibility includes provide ongoing technical support to improve quality and plant’s maintenance/reliability/TPM program. The position works closely with other staff members and is responsible for aligning support to meet the plant needs, designing, specifying and implementing product and manufacturing processes, equipment. In addition, the Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in our lean efforts as we continuously strive to reduce waste and improve our products and processes.


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Manage and execute engineering and capital projects to support process improvement and new product development

  • Ensure equipment satisfies internal and external requirements for safe operation

  • Develop and engineer products to support order management, inventory management, pricing, costing and shop floor execution through Leedo’s ECR/ECO change process

  • Lead cross-functional teams in implementation of new product development, new processes, process changes, or significant manufacturing footprint changes, including developing layout drawings

  • Lead new equipment specification, evaluation, selection, purchase and support on-site installation

  • Establish and audit machine/process, settings/standards, quality standards, operator standard work flow and PM programs for new and existing equipment

  • Develop a plan to identify and correct training needs and skill gaps, provide training to Production and Maintenance (train the trainer)

  • Provide technical support to Maintenance and Production in reducing equipment/process downtime and quality issues through RCFA, counter measure and preventive measure implementation

  • Work with the leadership team to develop, support and participate in Kaizen events to eliminate waste and improve material flow

  • Support metrics development for evaluating department effectiveness; monitor and improve performance

  • Continuously improve the reliability of the facilities and equipment including energy and operating cost reductions



Education and/or Experience Required



  • Bachelor's degree in industrial, mechanical, electrical/control engineering field, or equivalent experience required

  • Minimum 3 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience in an industrial environment 

  • Organized, driven/self-starter, attention to details, excellent analytical/problem solving, follow up and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)

  • Skills with Lean Manufacturing and other process improvement techniques

  • Woodworking and wood finishing equipment knowledge (operational, technical and maintenance knowledge).

  • Excellent computer skills including ability to create/modify drawing in AutoCAD or equivalent software

  • Flexible to travel between multiple Leedo facilities


 


Experience Preferred



  • Knowledge and experience of material science specific to adhesives, wood and wood coatings

  • Past implementation of wood finishing system installation or process improvement

  • Knowledge and experience of CNC programming development, optimization and troubleshooting experience with CutRite, Router-Cim or equivalent

  • Familiarity with cabinet manufacturing environments

  • Working knowledge of cabinet construction (framed and/or frameless) within the wood products industry (preferred)

  • Experience in automated control systems, including but not limited to design and programming PLCs and HMIs

  • Bilingual in Spanish
