JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Stewardship Associate REPORTS TO: Director of Stewardship & Real Estate STATUS: Full Time, Exempt The Stewardship Associate will assist the Land Trust of Virginia’s (LTV’s) stewardship program. This professional will work closely with the rest of the stewardship team to fulfill our annual obligation of monitoring the 240 properties we have under conservation easement. These protected properties are located in 19 different Virginia counties, with the highest concentration located in the northern piedmont. The stewardship team consists of Board members, volunteers, and other staff members, all of whom have gone through a training regarding LTV’s specific stewardship standards and procedures, and utilizing LTV’s relevant software programs. LTV is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families conserve their properties through conservation easements. LTV is an accredited land trust and holds more conservation easements than any other private land trust in Virginia. Primary Responsibilities: • Conducting property visits to document any natural or man-made changes to individual properties under conservation easement. • Meeting and developing relationships with landowners of conserved properties. • Assisting volunteers or other members of the stewardship team with questions or concerns. • Developing comprehensive stewardship reports and following up on any issues of non-compliance, concern, or inquiry. • Tracking, reviewing, and drafting initial responses to requests for letters of interpretation, approval requests, notices, and other actions as necessary. • Discussing the organization and the work LTV does with members of the public (individually or in a group setting). • Preparing GIS mapping related to stewardship work. • Conducting comprehensive conservation value analysis and documentation for new conservation easements. • Preparing Baseline Documentation Reports for new conservation easements, including preparation of detailed narratives, photography, and GIS mapping of conservation values, property features, and other geographic data. • Working with programs such as Landscape, GIS, Garmin/Trimble, county interactive mapping services and others. • Organizing and maintaining all records/files, both paper and online. • Attending Board and Easement Committee Meetings. • Assisting with annual fundraising events ranging from dinners to bicycle events and more. • Helping with special projects as needed. Education, Requirements and Relevant Experience: • College graduate with a degree in environmental studies preferred. • Experience with a conservation easement holder preferred. • GIS mapping experience preferred. • Must be MS Office proficient. • Must have reliable transportation (will be reimbursed for mileage) with ability to be in our Middleburg office as needed. • Must be able to walk through various terrain in all weather conditions. • Must be willing to explore properties unaccompanied and meet with landowners on-site. • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. • Must be reliable, personable, and well organized. • Must be good natured, hardworking, and work well with a team. • A sense of humor is preferred. • Must be self-motivated. Other Information: • This is full-time, exempt position that reports to the Director of Stewardship & Real Estate. • Start date targeted between October 15 and November 30, 2021. • Salary – Commensurate with experience. Range is $39,000-$44,000. • Includes benefits package of telecommuting work environment (although must live in or near Northern Virginia as the office is located in Middleburg), three weeks paid vacation, 2% of annual salary towards retirement, and contribution towards your health program.
