I am really excited to be hiring a Forest Hydrologist for our Southern Environmental Research team and would appreciate your sharing with anyone who might be a good fit. We are looking for someone who can add capability to our existing program studying the effects of silviculture on water quality and quantity. They will join a group consisting of a hydrologist, 2 wildlife biologists, an aquatic ecologist, and a hydrology research specialist. Salary and benefits are competitive and the working environment supportive to professional development. Relocation support is available.


 


I would appreciate your help in spreading the word. We do not have many openings in our group and want to find someone with complementary skills to expand our capabilities. We are looking for someone to work out of the Columbus, MS or New Bern, NC office but would be open to other locations where we have an office and a land base. We are all working remotely at the moment and each office will re-open based on local conditions.


 


All of our environmental research is open and collaborative and the successful candidate will have the ability to identify, develop and implement research opportunities with support across stakeholders.

Weyerhaeuser Timberland's Environmental Research and Operation's support organization is seeking a well-qualified, experienced Forest Hydrologist to join a scientifically rigorous research and technical support program focused on improving our understanding the interactions between forest management and water resources in the Southeastern U.S. The Forest Hydrologist will have the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to collaborate with and provide professional guidance to a wide community of stakeholders.


The primary location of this position is Columbus, MS, but consideration will also be given for New Bern, NC.

Key Functions


·       Participate in an established environmental research program in managed forest landscapes


·       Assist with managing a complex, watershed scale, long-term research project, including data collection and management and equipment maintenance


·       Provide technical support to forest managers, particularly on water-related issues


·       Contribute to meeting Company-wide sustainability goals


·       Develop effective external liaisons with universities, conservation organizations, and government agencies


·       Serve as a focal point for technical environmental communications


·       Provide support as needed to production forestry and tree improvement research platforms


Qualifications
·       Masters degree or Ph.D. in Forestry, Forest Hydrology or related field


·       Experience with hydrologic research techniques including experimental design, sampling protocols, field work, instrumentation, data acquisition from remote sensing, data management, GIS and statistical applications, and research project management


·       Desire and ability to work both in a research capacity and a technical support role, including learning operational aspects of commercial forest management and translating research results into practical applications


·       Demonstrated ability to work in teams across disciplines


·       Experience working with both private and public entities


·       History of peer-reviewed publications


·       Familiarity with managed pine forests and aquatic ecosystems of the Southeastern U.S.
