ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN

This is an entry level position created to help with current overflow in our environmental department at an established engineering consulting firm.
The position will entail a combination of field and office work. Field work entails travel to project sites around NC to collect water, soil and gas samples.  Some land surveying and construction inspection may also be necessary.  Office work entails assisting with technical reports. The position requires significant independent work as well as working as part of a small team. The position is considered part-time but is a full time opportunity for the right candidate.   Compensation is dependent upon experience.  

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The entry level environmental technician will be involved with data collection and organization in field and office settings, report writing and client relations.

DUTIES INCLUDE:
Water quality and landfill gas monitoring.
Drafting reports (Input data, Interpretation of data, construct tables, graphs, maps).

REQUIREMENTS:
Basic understanding of hydrology and groundwater flow.
Must be a problem solver, a thorough planner and dependable.
Proficient with spreadsheets and word processing (ie Excel and Word).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and clients.
Results orientated ability to work and think independently and in a team environment.
Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures beneficial but not required.
Ability to stay overnight out of town for up to 3 nights.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and work during any and all weather conditions.

EDUCATION:
Prefer a degree in earth sciences (Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, etc..)
May consider candidates that have yet to receive a degree.
Possible opportunity to work on some assignments remotely (from home).
