JOB DESCRIPTION


Develop short-and long-range environmental sustainability, conservation, and management goals; Develop a written sustainability reports.
Facilitate and track completed climate resilience measures. Estimate cost/level of effort and identify new resiliency measures.
Support maintenance of refrigerator and freezer inventories, update and fill gaps in the inventory data, and develop a long-term strategy for energy conservation and cost savings. Collect and analyze data to help identify positive-impact opportunities to reduce refrigerator and freezer numbers or space, temperature set points, energy efficiency, etc., and provide data driven recommendations.  Coordinate and collaborate with researchers, managers, and leadership; facilities staff; and environmental staff to solicit input and develop a plan of action. 
Support maintenance and improvement of a chemical inventory system that provides identification, tracking, and reporting capabilities for chemicals and reagents purchased for use in research or support operations.
Coordinate and collaborate with researchers, managers, and support personnel to identify opportunities to minimize travel, promote green meetings and conferencing, and initiate green laboratory practices. Identify best practices for existing tools and technology.  Suggest other/newly trending technologies, with their associated environmental benefits and return on investment.  Develop education and communication strategies to promote green laboratory initiatives.  Assist with implementation.
Assist with program evaluation of agency recycling efforts. Review current recycling program, policies, and practices. Identify strengths and weaknesses and suggest opportunities to improve the volume and accuracy of recycled materials and reduce contamination through development of creative recycling educational and awareness campaigns.
Support preparation for environmental audits and develops responses, reports, and corrective actions to address audit findings, as needed; Review and develops environmental program policies, procedures, guidance, and training, as needed.
Research new environmental opportunities, analyze data, perform studies, recommend actions, and assist with implementation.
Provide support in Environmental Health and Safety Assistant (EHSA) data management, including entry of new personnel and removal or archive of departing personnel and personnel transfers
Review and provide advice regarding the accuracy of data input into EHSA, overall function of EHSA, and assist with setup and changes to EHSA
Assist with scheduling of Collaborative Safety Walkthroughs and reporting of findings
Conduct ePermit reviews in EHSA
Conduct personnel and staff training on various safety topics and the EHSA data system
Monitor successful transfer and data upload of data from (EHSA) data system into the PI Dashboard
Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting for the safety scorecard
Review and provide input on hazardous agent protocols to for worker safety
Assist with the review and management of the laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan
Review and provide comments on Health and Safety-related policies and support development and update of environmental and health and safety manuals
Develop health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and guidance
Provide health and safety assistance in sampling and evaluating hazardous materials and physical agents
Provide radiation safety management consultation and on-site radiation safety backup support, as needed
Provide assistance in the maintenance and improvement of the chemical inventory system and review data for quality assurance and improvement/refinement.
Review and provide guidance and assistance with the update of environmental and safety websites
Assist with the development of online safety training courses
Investigate accidents and assesses workplace conditions based on occupational medical referrals
Conduct clearances of laboratories, equipment, and ventilation systems for chemical and biological contaminants and/or the associated data management in EHSA
Conduct ergonomic assessments
Conduct fume hood surveys
Conduct inspections of laboratories, administrative and support spaces, and facility management workspaces and operations for safety and environmental concerns



EXPERIENCE:


Must have at least two years of progressive experience working in a related position.
Must have demonstrated experience in providing environmental management, energy conservation, recycling and reuse, water conservation, pollution prevention, toxics and waste reduction, green acquisitions, green labs, climate resiliency, sustainability reporting, training, and facility/worker safety evaluation and data management.
Must demonstrate excellent communication skills that you can adapt quickly to a multitude of interpersonal situations.
Must be knowledgeable in federal, state and local environmental regulatory requirements and permitting processes.
Must have experience and be knowledgeable/skilled in project/program management concepts and have demonstrated experience applying those concepts to complex projects.
  JOB REQUIREMENTS:


Must meet requirements to secure PIV security badging and access to government computer and data systems.
Requires a professional with a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related discipline.  Preference will be given to candidates with related education/licensure/certifications in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, sustainability, and safety.
Must be able to sit, stand and lift/carry 30 lbs.
As the successful candidate, you must pass a background check. Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining necessary clearance.
  JOB TYPE: This is a fulltime temp-to-hire position with benefits upon hire. No paid relocation.


 


  LOCATION: Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (Candidate must reside within 35 miles of this location)


 


  WORK SCHEDULE:  Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.


  (40 hours/week). You may be required to work overtime with approval from management.


 


SALARY: Up to $35 to 45 /hour DOE
