Clean Air Carolina, is a statewide advocacy organization working for clean air and climate change solutions since 2003. With offices in Charlotte and Research Triangle Park, North Carolina our mission is to advocate for the health of people in North Carolina by pursuing collaborative solutions to the impacts of climate change, air pollution, and environmental injustices.


Clean Air Carolina’s Citizen Science Program is one of the most highly regarded in the country for its establishment of a statewide network of PM2.5 air sensors, its partnerships and data sharing with universities and government for research purposes, and its use of education and advocacy to advance clean air solutions. The principal component of the Citizen Science Program is known as AirKeepers, which refers to those individuals and organizations hosting air sensors.


The Citizen Science Program Manager builds and maintains a statewide network of diverse organizational partners, public agencies and individuals to advance Clean Air Carolina’s AirKeepers Program, and provides technical resources and data for researchers, policy makers, health professionals, and educators to advance Clean Air Carolina’s mission.


Responsibilities
TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES


Collect and analyze relevant data to communicate air quality and climate issues to diverse audiences.
Assist partners in technical aspects of air monitors, data interpretation, mapping, reporting, and other relevant interests.
Track and maintain an inventory of air monitors and other equipment related to the AirKeepers Program.
Evaluate new and emerging air sensors for potential deployment in air pollution hot spots around the state.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES


Complete deployment of PM2.5 air sensors in all North Carolina counties working with university partners and other organizations.
Cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders to further Clean Air Carolina’s AirKeepers program.
Manage the Citizen Science Advisory Board and use it to help assess the AirKeepers Program.
Work with Clean Air Carolina staff to further the Citizen Science Program and Clean Air Carolina’s other work, including health, policy, communication, and development.
Qualifications
Experience working with community research or environmental outreach programs and directly with racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
Proven project management skills to be able to plan, direct, and coordinate all details within each program assigned.
Ability to translate complex scientific information into language that all audiences can understand.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge and experience using Excel, GIS, and data management.
High level of comfort with technology including Microsoft Office, G Suite, project management applications, and Zoom.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to present to diverse audiences.
Experience in policy advocacy or speaking with public officials.
Degree in environmental science applied sciences or related field or equivalent education and/or experience desired.
Salary/Benefits
Salary Range $45,000-$55,000. This full-time (40 hours per week) position requires occasional evening meetings, weekend work, and overnight travel. Clean Air Carolina offers a competitive compensation package to include medical, dental & vision coverage, paid-time-off (PTO), the company paid holidays, cell phone allowance, and parental leave. Preferable, this position will be based in our Triangle office (Durham, NC), but is remote during the COVID-19 pandemic.
