The Longleaf Alliance (TLA) is seeking an experienced Technical Assistance and Training Specialist (TA&TS) to advance longleaf restoration in the western portion of the natural range (Mississippi, Louisiana, and east Texas). The position is Full Time with partial funding already secured for four years, with abundant opportunities to continue to secure funding to grow and extend the work.

Duties: The Technical Assistance and Training Specialist shares direct experience and science-based recommendations to help guide landowners and land managers to successfully reach their own individual objectives in longleaf ecosystem restoration. This Specialist is directly responsible for providing timely and
science-based responses to requests for assistance through a variety of methods, including phone, email, question line, or site visit. Work may often be accomplished independently, but opportunities to collaborate with other staff or team members can magnify the impact. The TA & TS plays a key role in the support of
landowner incentive programs, and in the delivery of the Longleaf Academy program, taking the lead when assigned on Academies, or providing high quality instruction in a supporting role. The Specialist will develop and lead workshops and field days as components of numerous grants and must be willing and able
to travel extensively across the nine-state longleaf range as opportunities to collaborate arise. Outreach is also accomplished through the production of brochures, flyers, webinars, and articles for publication in The Longleaf Leader or other publications. Presentation skill and leadership is also demonstrated through a
variety of TLA events, including the Biennial Longleaf Conferences. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented and exceptional with logistics, and energetically demonstrate dedication, integrity, and commitment beyond question.

Qualifications: Applicants must have at a minimum, a BS degree in Forestry or a natural resource field, and at least four years of experience in the management and restoration of longleaf. An advanced degree in a compatible field is desired. The Applicant will normally be working independently and will have working
knowledge of and/or experience in longleaf forest management and ecology, prescribed fire management, training and teaching of natural resource conservation, and the broader role of forestland management in the
Southeastern United States, with preference for a registered/certified forester, and ArcGIS experience. Applicant must have a passion for the longleaf ecosystem, an excellent personal and professional reputation, and credibility in the Southeastern United States conservation community. A demonstrated ability to create effective relationships with staff, partners, landowners, donors, state and federal agencies, NGOs, and other key constituencies is also needed. This position requires strong initiative, organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as computer fluency, especially in the full MS Office suite, along with strong written and oral communication skills.

Physical requirements of this position can be strenuous, requiring lifting and carrying of items up to 70 lbs.; the position also requires frequent outdoor work in weather conditions ranging from ideal to arduous. Considerable travel, including overnight and some weekends, is necessary to successfully complete the
expectations of the role; a valid US driver’s license is required.
