The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University is seeking an experienced field technician to assist a Crew Leader and a graduate student with research evaluating impacts of habitat selection and demography of Eastern wild turkey reproductive ecology in North Carolina’s Coastal Region. Primary responsibilities will include assisting with rocket net setup, turkey capture and handling, radio-telemetry, vegetation habitat sampling. Candidates with experience including the use of rocket nets, the capture and tagging of wild turkeys, vegetation sampling, and radio telemetry will be given preference, as will candidates with GIS coursework and experience. The position will begin in January and last through July.QualificationsPreference will be given to applicants that have a B.S. in wildlife ecology or related field. Competitive candidates will be expected to: (1) Have significant field experience. (2) Have strong interpersonal skills as daily interaction with landowners, hunters, state agency personnel, and other stake holders will occur. (3) Willingness to work very early mornings and late nights and weekends when necessary. (4) Have experience operating 4wd vehicles and ATV's.
Salary$1600/month (housing/vehicle included)
