Description

The National Center for Outdoor & Adventure Education (NCOAE) is a values-based outdoor adventure and education provider for teens and adults interested in personal growth and professional development. By teaching a core curriculum that emphasizes teamwork, environmental stewardship and the acquisition of technical skills, we help people improve their self-confidence and interpersonal relationships. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with experience in the recreation industry looking to further develop their skills in outdoor recreation.


NCOAE is seeking recreation interns for the fall, winter, & spring seasons to assist with program logistics. All work is conducted under the general supervision of the Program Director.


The length of the internship and weekly hours vary based on each individual’s required hours for their program. Learning goals and objectives are required for internships, and the experience is tailored to meet those goals, as well as academic requirements and the needs of our programs. Interns are observed informally throughout the experience – including a formal evaluation conducted mid-internship and at the end of the program.


Job duties include:
◊ Assist with pre- and post trip logistics, activity planning, and administrative tasks.
◊ Prepare a variety of reports and documents to include, repair/maintenance logs, inventory lists, and promotional materials.
◊ Assist in overseeing and maintaining inventory and the equipment check-in/check-out process for all outdoor programs.
◊ Assist with the general upkeep and care of equipment.
◊ Participate in required staff trainings and meetings.
◊ Maintain a safe and fun work environment.
◊ Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
◊ Prior work experience, preferably with wilderness programs, outdoor education, outdoor recreation, or residential summer camps.
◊ Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word & Excel.
◊ Valid drivers license.
◊ CPR & First Aid certified or willing to obtain.

Preferred:
◊ 2+ years experience with wilderness programs, outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and/or summer residential camps.
◊ Current WFA or WFR certification.
◊ Currently pursuing a degree in Adventure Education, Outdoor Education, Recreation, Wilderness leadership or related field.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
◊ Ability to work in various weather conditions
◊ Ability to lift up to 30lbs
