Open Position: Communications Associate
 


The Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) is a not-for-profit organization established in 1984 by Congressional leaders to provide timely, credible information for policymakers and influential stakeholders on innovative environmental and energy solutions. We believe that energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable buildings, transportation, and land management practices can address some of the most important issues of our time: climate change, the economy, national security, and public health. For more information, please visit eesi.org. Alongside its federal policy work, EESI’s Access Clean Energy Savings program helps rural electric cooperatives and public power utilities develop innovative programs that save their members and customers money through clean energy projects. These programs help families of all incomes to reduce their energy use while improving home comfort.


EESI is seeking a Communications Associate to assist with all its communications efforts. The Associate's time will be split about evenly between the Access Clean Energy Savings program and other mission-related communications.


The position will report to the Communications Director and will work closely with the Access Clean Energy Savings program staff.


 


Responsibilities:


Help develop EESI’s communications strategy, particularly for its Access Clean Energy Savings program; direct social media strategy for the Access Clean Energy Savings program.
Draft outreach materials, including web articles, newsletter articles, and social media posts (target audiences include policymakers, utilities, donors and potential donors).
Edit and format materials written by EESI staff, including web articles, newsletter articles, fact sheets, reports, and other publications.
Help promote and support Congressional briefings and webinars.
Post and edit materials on EESI’s website; manage the Access Clean Energy Savings website.
Prepare and schedule email blasts.
Track media coverage.
Conduct video interviews and edit videos for YouTube.
Represent EESI at meetings and conferences, especially those related to the Access Clean Energy Savings program.
Some travel may be required.
Perform additional duties as required.
 


Desired Qualifications:


1-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Outstanding editing and writing skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Able to multi-task, prioritize, and work autonomously to meet deadlines.
Able to contribute creative ideas for outreach and messaging strategies.
Experience with graphic layout preferred.
Experience with video and photo editing preferred.
Interest in and/or knowledge of—and enthusiasm for—the issues EESI addresses.
Commitment to a service-oriented culture, with the ability to build excellent working relationships with colleagues and external partners.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) databases, e-mail marketing software, Photoshop, and InDesign a plus. EESI uses Expression Engine (CMS) and Salesforce (CRM).
 


Starting salary: from $48,000. EESI offers an excellent benefits package.
