Description

PUBLIC NOTICE, UPCOMING ANNOUNCEMENTS
TERM GS-11/12 Geographer/Physical Scientist (Climate Impacts)

Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center
Duty Station: Raleigh, NC or remote

TERM GS-11/12 Research Ecologist (Climate Impacts)
Northeast Climate Adaptation Science Center
Duty Station: St. Paul, MN

Vacancy announcements (https://www.usajobs.gov/) in November 2019 with negotiable start date.
From the expansion of invasive species to wildfire, from drought to sea-level rise, changes in climate have
created new and evolving challenges for resource managers and communities. The mission of the Climate
Adaptation Science Centers is to deliver science to help fish, wildlife, water, land, and people adapt to a changing
climate. We will recruit two, term USGS scientists to develop and communicate:
● quantitative analysis of relevant climate and species data,
● climate impacts and risks to species current and future conditions, and
● species distribution/occupancy/population/ecological modeling
TERM GS-11/12 Geographer/Physical Scientist (Applied Climate Scientist)
The U.S. Geological Survey seeks a physical scientist for a full-time, 4 year, time-limited position located within
the Department of Interior’s Southeast Climate Adaption Science Center. The Center is responsible for
conducting research on the characteristics of future climate changes in the Southeastern U.S., the uncertainties
associated with these projections, and the impacts of climate and land use changes on Southeastern
ecosystems. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support and research on the impacts of
climate on eastern US ecosystems and species of conservation interest including: 1) quantitative analysis on
climate past and future scenarios at relevant spatial and temporal scales, 2) analysis of uncertainty on the
impacts of climate to species and habitat, 3) research to develop and implement methods to quantify and
propagate climate model projection uncertainty, 4) research to integrate climate projections into species, habitat,
and ecosystem response models, and 5) communication of these to natural resource managers. Results of this
research will fill significant gaps in the understanding of climate processes on important eastern US ecosystems,
particularly the role of uncertainty in modeling climate and ecosystem changes.

TERM GS-11/12 Research Ecologist (Climate Impacts). The U.S. Geological Survey seeks an ecologist for a
full-time, 4 year, time-limited position located within the Department of Interior’s Northeast Climate Adaption
Science Center. The Center is responsible for conducting research on the characteristics of future climate
changes in the Northeast U.S., the uncertainties associated with these projections, and the impacts of climate
and land use changes on Northeastern ecosystems. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical
support and research on the impacts of climate on eastern US ecosystems and species of conservation interest
including: 1) quantitative analysis on impacts of climate to future species distribution, occupancy, and health at
relevant spatial and temporal scales, 2) analysis of uncertainty on the impacts of climate to species and habitat,
3) research on the impacts of climate on ecological outcomes including key focal terrestrial and aquatic systems,
4) research to develop and implement predictive ecosystem models that account for the influences of processes
operating at multiple scales, and 5) communication of these to natural resource managers. Results of this
research will fill significant gaps in the understanding of climate processes on important eastern and midwestern
US ecosystems and utilizing this understand to support adaptive management decisions.
