Description

Education interns are responsible for presenting a variety of educational programs for Aquarium visitors and the general public. This position will present live animal programs, assist with our free-flighted bird program, teach at our on-the-floor touch pool habitats, and engage children with themed crafts in the Discovery Classroom. Education Interns will be responsible for answering visitor inquiries, assisting with animal care, using electronic communication systems and working on a variety of special event programs and projects. This position will include workdays on weekends, evenings and holidays.

Qualifications
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience as related to knowledge, skills, and abilities in area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:
• Recent graduate or currently pursuing a 4-year degree in education, marine biology, biology, parks and recreation, environmental studies or related field
• Prior animal handling and public speaking experience
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Interest in presenting public programs.
• Strong interest in working with live animals, especially reptiles and birds.
• Knowledge of NC coastal species and resources.
