Park Aide – Nature Preserves & Open Space


$8.50-$11.17 per hour


Hands-on job experience in natural resources at open space properties and at two unique nature
preserves in Wake County: Robertson Millpond Preserve, 6333 Robertson Pond Rd, Wendell, NC and
Turnipseed Nature Preserve, 7100 Hunt Valley Trl, Wendell, NC. This is THE way to gain experience
for that full-time position.
Hours:
PEAK SEASON summer hours from Mother’s Day until the first weekend of August:
Monday–Sunday, 8 a.m.–sunset
OFF-PEAK SEASON winter hours from first weekend in August until Mother’s Day:
Saturdays and Sundays, 8 a.m.–sunset
Preserve is also open on the following holidays:
Memorial Day, 4 th  of July/Independence Day and Labor Day
Work Schedule: 2-4 positions possible, 1-2 positions up to 16 hrs/week year-round; and another 1-2
up to 40 hours/week during peak season with possibility of continuing weekends during off-season.
All positions include work on weekends and holidays. Shifts would be up to 8 hours during peak
season and up to 6 hour shifts during off-season. This is an hourly position with no benefits and a
1000 hour cap per calendar year.
Primary Duties: Open and close preserves, provide a safe and clean environment for visitors, and
assist visitors with excellent customer service skills. Patrol paddling trail, hiking trails, minor
landscaping, collect trash and recycling, and help with various construction and/or repair projects.
Conduct site visits and collect data about flora and fauna at preserves and open space properties.
Qualifications: Prefer experience in parks and outdoor recreation experience (personal or work),
kayak/canoe paddling, flora/fauna monitoring & identification, and minor grounds maintenance.
Must be at least 18 years old, have a valid NC driver’s license. Applicant must perform physical tasks
outside during hot/cold weather conditions and work rotating weekends and holidays. CPR and First
Aid training will be available upon employment. Background check required before job offer.
