Multifamily Energy Efficiency Field Technician


Full-time hourly position
$18 to $22/ hour based on qualifications

Southern Energy Management (SEM), a mission-driven B-Corp and leader in sustainability is currently seeking a full-time Energy Efficiency Technician to support our Multifamily and Commercial team. Proud to be one of the first sustainable energy companies to certify as a B-Corporation, our mission is to improve the way people make and use energy. 


 


The Multifamily Energy Efficiency Technician position will be responsible for working in the field on project sites performing visual inspections, performance testing, collecting field data, and verifying developments to achieve various ratings and green certifications such as ENERGY STAR, LEED for Homes, NGBS, and more. This position can be local to our main office or remotely based. The majority of work will be in the field and traveling to project sites with the potential for overnight stays +/- 2 nights/week. Travel throughout SEM’s main service area includes NC, SC, VA, TN, GA as well as other states. 


 


SEM runs its business on the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). One of the main tenets of that system is having the right people in the right seats. Here is the primary accountability for the role:


 


Duties:                                       


Work closely and collaboratively with general contractors and subcontractors, providing onsite technical assistance with means and methods for achieving specification and/or certification standards.
Perform accurate and expedient data entry of field-collected data.
Inspect buildings for compliance with required energy-efficient construction and program details in framing, insulation, air barrier, and HVAC.
Field test new buildings for energy efficiency performance factors including whole-house air leakage and duct leakage.
 


Qualifications:


Good customer relationship skills are of utmost importance. This position works closely and collaboratively with SEM’s multifamily project managers, client partners, general contractors, and subcontractors providing onsite technical assistance with means and methods for achieving specification and/or certificate standards.
Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.
Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain one's own schedule and tasks independently.
Strong math and geometry skills.
Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and the ability to navigate web-based platforms.
Fast and accurate data entry (demonstrate the ability to type >40 words per minute).
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 100 feet unassisted.
Ability to work outdoors, on ladders, in basements, crawl spaces, and attics.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Experience with HERS ratings and energy modeling software preferred.
Basic construction and energy modeling skills are a definite plus.
Having the HERS Rater and/or green program certification designation is preferred.
A strong commitment to sustainable energy and dedication to the core values and long-term vision of SEM.
Located in the Greenville, SC, Charlotte, Triangle, or Triad, NC area is a plus.
