GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:


 


·         Establish strong relationships with key construction professionals within the assigned territory including builders, designers, suppliers and code officials.


·         Educate and train end-users, distributors and specifiers on member product attributes and their proper specification and application.


·         Promote and develop new markets and applications for APA and trademarked products.


·         Promote and maintain existing markets and applications for APA products.


·         Investigate and report on member-initiated product observations at jobsites, in the chain of distribution, or at other end-use locations.


·         Serve as a technical and market resource for members and specifiers in an assigned geographical territory.


·         Develop and report on-going view of market activity and opportunities.  Participate in market research as requested.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


 


Accomplish the above through:


 


A.    Promotion calls on key specifiers and users within target markets; e.g.:


·         Builders and contractors


·         Architects and engineers


·         Building code officials


·         Distributors (retail and wholesale)


·         Other construction influencers, e.g., energy raters


B.    Arranging and conducting educational meetings and seminars; e.g.:


·         Builder associations and industry groups


·         Distributors


·         Building inspection and code officials


C.    Participate in trade shows.


D.    As assigned, take leadership role for a specific market, product type or segment and perform as the market expert for all FSD.


E.    Develop constructive on-going relationships with all major builders, designers and building inspection and code agencies in assigned territory.


A.    Attend and report about technical meetings and conferences of importance that occur within assigned territory; e.g., code meetings.


B.    Be alert for and report on new or unique applications that do or could use member-produced products.  Also, for products and processes that threaten APA markets.  Report all trends to Region Manager.


C.    Per member request, observe products that may be involved in complaints or disputes. Work with the Manager, Member Services following the lead of the Manager and Member Services to conduct an observation and produce an accurate and factual observation report.


D.    Participate and contribute fully to the performance of an FSD market team.


 


Accountable for:


·         Following APA safety policy, as well as continuous improvement in safety awareness.


·         Meeting Standards of Performance set jointly with the Region Manager.


·         Quality of field call appointments and seminars.


·         Member relationships under the direction of the Region Manager.


·         Relationships with building code officials, as well as with key specifiers and others of influence in assigned territory.


·         Timely, informative and accurate reports.


·         Prioritizing works schedule according to APA’s Strategic Marketing Plan and FSD’s goals and objectives.


·         Comprehensive recording of all call records in FSD database.


 


SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:


 


·         Must be proven self-starter with an ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.


·         Ability and willingness to work in difficult conditions such as on roofs, in crawl spaces and climbing into attics or similar construction or plant site environments.


·         Excellent written and oral communication skills.


·         Good driving record and willingness to drive long distances and be away from home overnight frequently.


·         Maintain a neat appearance and conduct self in a professional and ethical manner.


·         Personal character and communication skills, which supports meaningful interface with peers and all departments of the APA.

Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or the wood sciences and/or experience in technical sales or marketing in a market pertinent to APA is preferred
