The Game Bird Program at Tall Timbers Research Station is looking for a 2 full time research technicians - one located in Tallahassee, Florida and one near Wilmington, NC. This position will consist of approximately 80% field duties and 20% office work. Field work will consist of the various methods of Northern Bobwhite data collection which is seasonally specific. During the breeding season field duties will include: radio-telemetry to monitor survival and habitat use, nest identification and monitoring, intensive (i.e. multiple times per day) and non-intensive brood tracking, and bobwhite neonate capture. During the overwinter season radio-telemetry will be conducted to monitor survival and habitat use and Northern Bobwhites will be trapped during November, January, and March. Other but less frequent field duties will include: invertebrate sampling via pitfalls and DVAC, bi-weekly raptor surveys, small mammal trapping via Shermin live traps, and meso-mammal surveys and trapping. In addition to field methods the technician will assist the biologist with administration duties as follows: scheduling of lab equipment use, lab equipment and vehicle maintenance, training of interns and students, assisting with data proofing and formatting and other duties on request.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
1) B.S. in wildlife or related field or working toward a B.S. degree
2) An interest in game bird ecology and management.
3) Previous field research and computer experience is preferred.
4) Individuals need a valid, CLEAN (no points on license) driver's license and have a good driving record.
5) Experience with data entry is preferred.
