Description

American Mitigation Company seeks an entry/junior level GIS Analyst with 0-5 years of experience. AMC is
mitigation provider that develops wetland and stream mitigation banks, permittee responsible mitigation
projects, and other projects in alternative environmental credit markets. The employee in this position will
spend approximately 70% of their time as GIS Analyst and approximately 30% as a field ecologist.
Applicants should have demonstrated experience with ArcGIS and be able to use ArcGIS to develop
specific information to support the development of mitigation projects. An understanding of wetland and
stream ecology and related regulations and regulatory processes is important. The selected applicant will
be expected to independently select and process information and develop an understanding of credit
generation in various USACE Districts and states. Work includes use of ArcMap for generation of standard
map sets for natural resource restoration project; collecting, downloading and processing of GPS data;
and use of public data sets to complete analyses related to watershed assessment or restoration feasibility
studies (e.g., use of DEMs, various natural resource overlays, etc.).
The selected applicant will be responsible for developing maps for potential wetland and stream
restoration projects, conducting impact analyses of known projects to determine potential credit needs
within a watershed, identifying potential mitigation sites, and generating other spatial data to support the
development of mitigation projects. The selected applicant may also conduct site inspections and collect
data from potential and existing mitigation projects. Overnight travel may be required.
Successful Applicant Must Have the Following Attributes
• Familiarity with CWA Section 404 and Compensatory Mitigation in various USACE Districts and States
• Experience with GIS software, data, and graphics
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to work independently and on a team
• Ability to work outdoors, in the field, and in an office
• Ability to complete fieldwork year-round, in inclement weather and harsh conditions
• Ability to travel overnight for up to 1 week
• Ability to navigate large sites using a map and compass
• Competent with Excel functions to complete analyses
• Competent with various software programs (MS Word and PowerPoint)
Additional Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with wetland and stream delineations and functional assessments
• Competence with basic statistical evaluation of scientific information
• Experience with CADD
Minimum Education/Experience
• BS in Environmental Science, Wetland Science, Biology, Wildlife Biology, GIS, Forestry or related field
• 0-5 years of related experience
• Valid U.S driver’s license
