This year, 41 state employees received the award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mills, who now works as a research technician in the College of Veterinary Medicine, won the award in the efficiency and innovation category. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She has been instrumental in designing and implementing new GIS solutions, pig movement data analysis and disease-tracking systems that have greatly improved her lab\u2019s ability to monitor disease outbreaks and respond to them in a timely and effective manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of Mills&#8217; most notable achievements was her role in developing an app for tracking disease in pig production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis app is revolutionizing the way we collect and analyze data, and it has allowed companies and state veterinarians to respond to outbreaks much faster than before,\u201d Mill\u2019s nomination letter stated. \u201cKelsey\u2019s dedication and attention to detail have made this app user-friendly and easy to use, and it has been praised by farmers and veterinarians alike for its design.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Kelsey Mills - Governor&#039;s Awards for Excellence\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uaogNhouWZY?start=65&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mills said she is extremely proud of her work on the app. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m from North Carolina, and the pork industry is very important here,\u201d she said. \u201cBeing involved in something heavily related to where I am from is one of the reasons why it\u2019s so important to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mills said she is also proud of the recognition she has received as a result of her work but noted her work is part of a team effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am very honored,\u201d she said. \u201cEverything that we produce in the lab is a group effort.
