These effects can not only impact plants and animals, but they can also be consequential for humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the College of Natural Resources, researchers have studied these effects and shared their insights over the years. areas, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/directory\/robert-scheller\/\">Robert Scheller<\/a>, a professor of forestry and environmental resources at NC State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe outcome varies from fire to fire because it depends on their intensity, frequency and the ecosystem involved,\u201d said Scheller, who studies fire ecology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although wildfires can that are immobile or too slow face increased risk of injury or death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are always winners and losers following fires,\u201d said&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/directory\/christopher-moorman\/\">Christopher Moorman<\/a>, a professor of fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology at NC State, who studies the effects of natural disturbances on wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 2023 study co-authored by Moorman, for example, found that&nbsp;the increase in understory woody vegetation following <a vegetation to slow down precipitation, the soil&#8217;s ability to absorb rainwater significant decreases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There will be more water flowing to the rivers once you have big storms after fire.
