The NRPA Ethnic Minority Society selected Kathy Hamilton Gore as this year’s recipient of the Ernest T. Attwell Award for contributions “to the development of new professionals through teaching, mentoring and programming for over 10 years and professional service activities for more than 20 years at the local, state and national levels”. She has been a member of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at NC State for over 22 years where she has taught courses on diversity, finance, administration, programming and management. While at NC State, she has earned numerous awards such as the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Managment Teacher of the Year in 1998, CNR’s Outstanding Academic Advisor 2000, 2001 and 2002, Nominee for the College of Natural Resources Alumni Distinguished Professor in 2008 and 2012 and is a member of NC State’s Academy of Outstanding Professors since 2002. Prior to NC State, she was a Recreation Consultant for the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation Division of Planning and Recreation Resources. Her other professional experience includes higher education student development, local government social work, and Veterans Administration physical rehabilitation. She is dedicated to promoting student diversity, professional development, and continuing education. She participates in local and national professional associations where she has held elected leadership positions.
