The American Public Health Association, American Planning Association and Georgia Institute of Technology developed the Building Bridges Between Public Health and Civic and Community Planning Project in order to advance basic knowledge of the relationship between the built environment and public health. A part of this project was a call for papers with the purpose of enhancing the knowledge of professionals working in the field. Dr. J. Aaron Hipp et al.’s paper, “Using webcams and crowds to study the impact of enhanced crosswalks and temperature on active transportation” was one of three papers selected to be published through the Built Environment and Public Health Clearinghouse. The publication of these papers comes just in time for the Surgeon General’s “Call to Action to Promote Walking and Walkable Communities” and the launch of the “Step It Up” campaign.
