Leveraging the Social Platform of Sport to Engage New Populations with Environmental Messages

PRTM Associate Professor Jonathan Casper is part of a research team whose study has given support to industry claims about the ability to leverage the social platform of sport to engage new populations with environmental messages. Their study, which was in the Sport Management Review in April 2019 also suggests that these messages can promote sustainable behavioural changes that can promote a more sustainable world.
Professor Casper is part of the team at  The Sport Ecology Group whose goal is to share their research with a broader audience. The group, which kicked off on Earth day (April 22) 2019 is a community of academics who are guided by a simple vision, “Imagine if all people understood and supported the environment with the same interest and passion they showed their favourite sports teams.” The group was featured in an article in The Sustainability Report, which offers the inside track on sport sustainability.
The Sport Ecology Group’s article, Examining Environmental Fan Engagement Initiatives summarizes the results and process of the study which aligns with their goal of to getting their research out to a broader audience, if you would like to read the complete study, follow this link.
