Every year, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) at NCSU honors an Outstanding Alumnus. This award is presented annually to an individual who has earned at least a B.S. degree from the department; has been a practicing professional for at least ten years; has made a recognized contribution to the advancement of parks, recreation, tourism, sport, or golf profession on a local, state, or national level; has demonstrated service to his or her community; and has recognized contributions and accomplishments related to his or her current or previous position.
We are excited to recognize Dale Smith as the 2016 Outstanding Alumnus.
Dale Smith genuinely has a love for people and a passion for helping them improve. She teaches that you have to work hard, love hard and play hard. She does that through talent management and team training. Her background in organizational management, team building and strategic thinking has culminated into a career focusing on helping teams and individuals improve.
Dale has earned a:
- Bachelor of Science in Recreation Resource Administration
- Master’s Certificate in Teaching, Training and Education Technology
- EQI 2.0 and 360 (Emotional Intelligence) Certification
- MBTI (Meyers-Briggs) Certification
- Business Coaching Certification – expected completion date August 2016
As a pioneer in the Parks and Recreation Industry, Dale developed “The LeadHership Workshop in conjunction with Recreation Resources Service with NCSU.
Over 350 women have been exposed to:
- Positive Leadership Practices for Success
- Work/Life Balance
- Project Management
- Conflict Management
Additionally, Dale serves as a Board of Regent Instructor for Supervisors’
Management School operated by NCSU and the National Recreation and Parks Association. She has spoken at national, state and local conferences as well as a number of state university classrooms.
With over 30 years in Parks and Recreation Management, Dale decided that she was not done yet! She is now the CEO of Smith Management and Consulting Services focusing directly on connecting managers and leaders to their teams and individual personalities through improved communication, common goal acquisition and an appreciation for differences as strengths
