Every year, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) at NCSU honors an Outstanding Alumnus. This award is presented annually to an individual who has earned at least a B.S. degree from the department; has been a practicing professional for at least ten years; has made a recognized contribution to the advancement of parks, recreation, tourism, sport, or golf profession on a local, state, or national level; has demonstrated service to his or her community; and has recognized contributions and accomplishments related to his or her current or previous position.

We are excited to recognize Jim B. Wall as the 2014 Outstanding Alumnus.

J Wall

Jim B. Wall received his Master’s degree in Recreation Resource Administration and Public Administration from NC State. He is currently the vice-president and owner of Challenge Designs Innovations, Inc. based out of Pineola, NC. The objective of this company is to provide high quality products and services in the Ropes Course and Tactical Training industries. His clients have included all branches of the United States Military, colleges, universities, youth camps, and recreational and corporate training sites.

Previous experience include extensive work in designing military training programs, designing and maintaining ropes courses, Director of an Outdoor Education Center, Director of Iredell County Recreation and Parks, Park Manager, Park Ranger. He was an instrumental designer and contributor to the Ropes Course that was built in NCSU’s Schenck Memorial Forest. In addition, Mr. Wall is the author of several editions of The Complete Ropes Course Manual.
