Why did you choose PRTM?

I chose to pursue a degree in the Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management Department because of the family environment. PRTM is a home away from home. PRTM is comprised of dedicated, committed and passionate professionals helping students reach their full potential by providing them with incredible lessons in and outside of the classroom.

What internships or volunteer experiences have you had?

I have had the opportunity to gain valuable experiences in the sport industry throughout my college career at NC State University.  During my freshman year, I began volunteering at the Frankie Lemmon School, a preschool for kids with disabilities. During my weekly volunteering at Frankie Lemmon, I learned the value sport and recreation has on connecting people from all walks of life.

Interning with the NC State Football team in the recruiting department has allowed me to assist in the daily recruiting operations including planning and implementing unofficial and official athletic visits to NC State in compliance with NCAA guidelines. This role has been an important part of my college life at NCSU.

During a CNR Professional Etiquette Dinner I mad a connection with CNR alum. This led to a weekend working with the Atlanta Falcons during their Breast Cancer Awareness Week.

From my experience with the Falcons, I had the confidence to apply for a semester long internship with another NFL Team. I worked with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the spring of my Junior Year in the Ticket Sales and Member Relations Department. This internship confirmed my passion for the professional sports industry and paved the way for me to build professional relationships with individuals in the industry.

I arrived back in NC to complete an internship with USA Baseball. My Baseball Operations Internship with USA Baseball provided an invaluable learning environment, as I was the Baseball Operations Coordinator for the East. In this position, I planned a national tournament for 14, 15, and 17 year old youth baseball players. From beginning to end, the internship included working at the corporate headquarters in Durham, NC, on-site at the National Training Complex in Cary, NC, and on location for the tournament in Jupiter, FL. I will continue my internship with USA Baseball in the fall.

What advice would you give to future students?

Follow your passion and get involved. Both the College of Natural Resources and PRTM create opportunities for their students to be involved and provide the resources to assist in their success. Take full advantage of all that is available.

Join clubs, serve as a leader, build relationships with your peers and professors, and do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself pursuing my passion in the professional sport industry working in a Community Relations Department of an NFL or MLB team.

What are your fondest memories about being a student at NC State?

My fondest memories about being a student at NC State include being involved in CNR college-wide activities, completing a study abroad trip to New Zealand and cheering on all NC State athletic teams, home and away.
