Why did you choose PRTM?

From an early age, I was at home in nature and enjoyed experiencing the outdoors. I chose PRTM because of my passion for the environment and the diverse learning experience provided by the Natural Resource curriculum. The department employs a hands-on approach to learning, affording unique insight to policy making, conservation, preservation and the sustainability of the environment. PRTM provides the best opportunity for me to make a lasting difference in others’ lives by educating, protecting, and sustaining natural resources.

What internships or volunteer experiences have you had?

I have volunteered with Morningside Assisted Living, Bugg Elementary, and NC Senior Olympics. I currently volunteer with Kid’s Café, a mentoring afterschool program for the local Avent West community and Family Promise, a program offered through Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network. I have a NABCEP Photovoltaic Associates Degree and currently work with NC Solar Now, as their Marketing Coordinator.

What advice would you give to future students?

Explore the unique opportunities NCSU offers to grow, learn, and experience life. Fully commit to challenges and passionately pursue education. Advisors and professors are there to help you, utilize their expertise. Finally, embrace college and enjoy your time at NC State.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Working as a Natural Resource Specialist with the Army Corps of Engineers preserving, conserving, and sustaining the environment. I will hopefully be involved in designing and implementing renewable technologies as a predominant energy source promoting intergenerational equity. I plan to utilize GIS technologies to involve stakeholder participation and conserve Natural Resources for healthy communities in whatever profession I serve.

What are your fondest memories about being a student at NC State?

My fondest memories are of the close friendships I hold dear and the camaraderie shared among students. You come as an individual and leave with a family. Some of my favorite times occurred while backing the Pack at basketball and football games. Collaborative efforts and shared experiences always provided memorable moments.
