Why did you choose PRTM?
I chose to major in PRTM, because I was passionate about creating recreation experiences for others and this major includes a business-management avenue where I could obtain valuable skills. When I visited CNR, and sat in on a PRTM class I saw the genuine relationships between the professors and students, and knew this is where I wanted to be.
What internships or volunteer experiences have you had?
- Public Relations Intern at Mote Aquarium in Sarasota Florida- I worked with the Events Coordinator organizing fundraisers, working with donors and overseeing their social media. One of my major responsibilities was putting on the annual 5k that raises over $50,000 for Sea Turtle Research.
- Interim Marketing Manager for B&B Catering- I had the opportunity to work for a five star hospitality and catering company. I was able to contribute to the writing of business plans and marketing material. I was also managed their social media and staff schedules.
What advice would you give to future students?
I would tell future students to trust you are in the right place. The professors and faculty in PRTM are dedicated to the students. Speak up, share your passions, and take advantage of every door that is opened for you!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I am seeking a career in corporate fitness or worksite wellness. I plan to pursue my masters in Recreation Management or Health Promotion. My motto for my career is “changing the world one squat at a time.”
What are your fondest memories about being a student at NC State?
My fondest memories of NC State will include lots of yelling “Go pack”; meeting friends at coffee shops, and working at Carmichael. I love the energy Wolfpack fans bring to NCSU sporting events and traditions. I love exploring the city of Raleigh with friends on the weekend. I have been employed with UREC since before I moved into my freshman dorm. I instantly had my fitness community. I have created so many memories with the other student employees through UREC events.
