American Indian Heritage Celebration at NC Museum of History
November 19, 2022 | 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
As part of Native American Heritage Month, the North Carolina Museum of History is hosting an all-day event featuring demonstrations and hands-on activities, exhibits and displays, storytelling, history, arts, food and health information. This is a great opportunity to learn about state-recognized tribes in North Carolina as well as the history of civil rights in NC Indian country.
Attendees include representatives from the Coharie Indian Tribe based in Sampson and Harnett counties. PRTM’s Duarte Morais, associate professor and CEO of People-First Tourism, established a community partnership with the Coharie Tribe to organize paddle trips on the Big Coharie river.
Juanita Caldwell, a Coharie Tribe member, will be a panelist at the session: Stand Up and Sit Down: Civil Rights in NC Indian Country.
