The Watauga Medal is NC State’s highest external honor, given by the Board of Trustees each year to Pack members who have made significant contributions to the university’s advancement through their leadership, service and advocacy.
During her time at NC State, Ussery was the captain of the first varsity women’s basketball team and was the first woman to score a basket in competition in Reynolds Coliseum.
Ussery went on to become a very engaged alumna, serving as secretary and then as the first female president of the Alumni Association’s board of directors. Hudson built a successful career across the pulp and paper and software industries, leading innovations in operational efficiency and enterprise asset management. His work has had lasting impact in both the manufacturing and education sectors.
Outside of his career, Hudson has supported the College of Natural Resources through the establishment of a scholarship for rural North Carolina students in the paper science and engineering program and by contributing to youth development initiatives like 4‑H.
Louis J. Boos.

A 1962 graduate of Brown University, Boos began his career as a sales trainee but quickly rose to key management positions at various companies before co-founding Nordic Engineering, Inc., an equipment and technology supplier for the pulp, paper and forest products industry.
