Congrats to NC State’s 2023 Herb Stout Student Award Winners

For each biannual NC GIS Conference, NC State University can select one undergraduate student and one graduate student as winners of the G. Herbert Stout Award for Innovative Student Papers. The Herb Stout Student Award recognizes GIS scholarship by students who have developed an innovative geospatial research project and includes free registration for the conference and a $200 prize. All awardees will make a 15–20-minute presentation at the conference on a GIS topic and will be recognized at the conference’s closing luncheon.

Congratulations to this year’s NC State honorees:

Jeremy Davis
  • Jeremy Davis, Master of Geospatial Information Science and Technology (MGIST, Dec. ’22)
    • Jeremy recently graduated from the MGIST program and completed a highly successful and well-received project with the Town of Matthews.
    • NC GIS Conference presentation title: Town of Matthews, NC: Tree Canopy Assessment Tool
Andrea Saravitz
  • Andrea Saravitz, bachelor’s of science student majoring in statistics with a minor in computer programming
    • Andrea was selected for her stellar undergraduate research work with researchers at the Center for Geospatial Analytics.
    • NC GIS Conference presentation title: Modeling the Invasion of the Spongy Moth
