Cary is seeking Summer Day Camp Assistant Leads to take an active leadership role in the planning and implementation of Summer Day Camp to deliver high-quality programming for camp participants. As an Assistant Lead, you will play a key role in managing day-to-day camp operations to ensure a smooth and positive experience for campers, families, and fellow camp staff.
 
Summer Day Camp is held at Bond Park Community Center, Herb Young Community Center, Middle Creek Community Center, The Hive, Green Hope Elementary and Mills Park Elementary.

This is a seasonal (April-August), non-benefited position, up to 40 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours.

Typical Tasks



  • Manages day-to-day camp operations by ensuring that group schedules are followed and proper supplies are on hand for scheduled activities or trips;

  • Provides leadership in the planning and implementation of activities and trips;

  • Manages camp staff schedules, coaches staff, ensures staff adherence to policies and safety protocols, and completes staff evaluations;

  • Communicates information with parents on any schedule changes, concerns, or disciplinary issues;

  • Ensures that daily cleaning schedule is followed and assists with cleaning when needed;

  • Mediates camper disciplinary issues and completes any necessary paperwork;

  • Works with inclusion staff to accommodate any camper needs;

  • Provides coverage in camp administrative office;

  • Monitors camp transition;

  • Assists with check-in and check out procedures;

  • Drives a town 15-passenger vehicle or smaller;

  • Performs other job-related tasks as required.




    Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment. 

    Requires a valid driver's license and acceptable driving history.

    Qualifications
    Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree with major course work in recreation, education, or a related field
    Requires at least one year or one summer season working in as a camp counselor, camp administrator, teacher, or similar position
    Prefers two or more years of experience teaching youth in a classroom setting, or attainment of a bachelor's degree in recreation management, physical education, elementary/middle/high school education, or a closely related field
    CPR and First-aid Certification preferred; training opportunities available
