The Right Environment
With a student body of just over 1,700, our college is one of the smallest at NC State, home to a close-knit community and students who get the attention they deserve โ including personalized advising and instruction. At the same time, our students benefit from all the resources and support of NC State, the largest university in North Carolina.
Our college also offers the best of both worlds in terms of location: Weโre based in Raleigh โ the stateโs capital and one of Americaโs most-awarded cities โ but enjoy easy access to exceptional outdoor learning labs, including Schenck Forest just 10 minutes from our door and Hill Forest only 45 minutes away.
Whether you want to study the native animals of Namibia or the forests of Sweden, our college will give you the opportunity to study the environment, diverse societies and engineering of sustainable resources around the world. And youโll do it all at a university consistently ranked as one of the nationโs best values in education.

Earlier this week, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (@ncstateprtm) hosted its annual end-of-year celebration. The event celebrated all students, faculty and staff in the program and all of the departmentโs success and achievements.
๐ธ: Take a look back at the eventโs highlights.

Congratulations to our own Dr. Angela Allen, faculty recipient of this yearโs NC State Sustainability Award! Student nominees this year included our own Nicole Rosales-Garcia, Clara Stec and Morgan Starnes. ๐
Dr. Allen is an assistant teaching professor of forestry and environmental resources (@ncstatefer). Through the Environmental Resource Clinic Student Training Program, Allen has trained students to conduct water quality testing and monitoring.
"This award means a lot to me as I was given support to mentor our next generation of scientists in a research arena. One program goal is to allow students the opportunity to gain skills in water quality through practical skills and community involvement."
Nicole Rosales-Garcia is a graduating senior, majoring in environmental science. While working in the Campus Tree Education Internship, Nicole helped create the Campus Tree Tours at NC State.
Nicole has also contributed to research in climate science and community engagement. โBoth of these projects have my heart and soul in them and are my highlights when I talk about impactful research/experiences within NC State and my department.โ โ@nicole.innature
Clara Stec is a junior, majoring in business administration with a minor in environmental science, and is a KIETS Climate Leaders Program Scholar.
Clara piloted the Sustainability Career Development Program and chaired its student advisory board. โI helped build a student-alumni sustainability network and launched a Sustainability Alumni Mentorship Program to connect students with real-world insights and career pathways.โ โ@_clarastec
Morgan Starnes is a graduating senior, majoring in environmental technology and management.
Morgan is an intern with @ncstaterecycles and NC State`s Stormwater Management team and president of @zerowastewolvesncsu. โFrom tabling in Talley and Fountain, to working at athletic events reducing waste going to landfill, I have been all over campus educating students and the public on how to be better stewards of the environment.โ

Earlier this week, the College of Natural Resources and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (@ncstateprtm) co-hosted the third annual Women in Sports Leadership Summit.
The summit, hosted alongside @packathletics and Wolfpack Women, helps develop, connect and advance women interested in entering the sport industry. This yearโs keynote speaker was Dr. Heidi Grappendorf. Dr. Grappendorf is a professor of sport management at Western Carolina University.

We spoke to some graduating #NCStateCNR students to get their words of wisdom for prepping for final exams next week. ๐บ๐พ Check out what they had to say.

This afternoon, @ncstateferlb hosted its De-Stress Fest to help students unwind before finals. We loved having Eno the Therapy Dog pay our students an adorable visit. ๐ ๐พ
๐ธ Take a look back at the event.

Meet William Hitt, the embedded counselor for undergraduate and graduate students in #NCStateCNR and the College of Education (@ncstateced).
As an embedded counselor, William is here to support the wellbeing and mental health needs of students in both colleges. He offers intake appointments and regular check-ins, either in-person or via Zoom. Currently, his drop-in hours are Mondays and Tuesdays in Biltmore 2022D and Wednesdays and Thursdays in Ricks 9. This year`s @ncstate Earth Fair brought the Pack together to celebrate our planet and spark change. ๐ ๐พ

Meet Jack Zimmerman, a passionate NC State student studying sustainable materials and technology in #NCStateCNR`s Department of Forest Biomaterials (@ncstatefb). ๐ฟ๐
He is helping create solar-powered cars and designing sustainable composites for the future, through his involvement as the outreach officer for the Sustainable Materials and Technology Student Association (@smtsa_) and SolarPack (@solarpacknc).
โWhat I appreciate about the sustainable materials and technology program is that, while it may seem specialized, it offers a wide range of career opportunities. I previously worked with electric vehicles at Duke Energy, which was fascinating as I got to be on the cutting edge of transportation technology.โ โ@jackwzim
