Description

Assistantship Description: An assistantship for a doctoral student is available at the University
of Georgia (UGA) Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. The incoming student will
pursue doctoral research to a) assess the perceptions of women forest landowners about the
sustainable management of forest resources, b) develop typologies of women forest landowners
based on their intrinsic motivations, and c) define place attachment of women forest landowners
across the SE United States (Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina). The incoming student will
also work closely with Outreach Faculty Members (Warnell School) for undertaking six capacity
building workshops for women forest landowners in Georgia. The student is expected to complete
his/her dissertation within three years from the start date (Spring 2021/Summer 2021/Fall 2021).

Qualifications: Candidates (especially women) with relevant educational background, research,
or work experience are encouraged to apply. Undergraduate students with relevant research
experience are encouraged to apply, as well.
Stipend and Benefits: This assistantship will pay $25,500/year based on a 45% (about 18
hours/week) appointment. The student will receive a full-tuition waiver; however, he/she is
expected to pay a matriculation fee of $25 and mandated student and activity fees totaling
approximately $1,145/semester (Fifty percent of the mandated student and activity fees will be
reimbursed). All students on assistantship are required to have health insurance. UGA pays a
portion of the premium for the University System’s health insurance plan
