  This is a seasonal position working directly with National Hockey League broadcasts. If hired for this position, training will begin in late August/early September. The NHL season runs from October into June.

For over 20 years, SMT has been the NHL’s technology partner, and today provides the league with the most comprehensive, end-to-end, technology solution in sports with our NHL OASIS HITS scoring system, OASIS and OPTICS platforms, puck- and player-tracking system and virtual insertion technology. We are seeking sports lovers to operate NHL OPTICS, our graphics insertion system for NHL games. This position must be able to work nights and weekends in our Durham, N.C.-based studios.


  • Verify all system components are in working order before and during games

  • Communicate to SMT staff before games to verify system setup

  • Operate our VirtualFX or OPTICS Pro system during games

  • Relay system issues to support staff for repair or replacement

  • Quickly process feedback from the system and adjust in real-time

  • Communicate post-game data as needed nightly.

  • Work well under pressure and complete tasks on time

  • Follow daily checklists and other written procedures


Some technical experience, comfortability with Windows-based machines, monitoring multiple computer applications simultaneously
Live sports experience is a plus
Hockey experience is a plus


Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and Windows OS
Extensive PC gaming skills (use of hotkeys and gaming mice) is a plus
Basic understanding of hockey terminology, NHL rules and game play. Advanced knowledge of the hockey terminology is a plus.
Basic network troubleshooting knowledge
Open availability (must be available to night, weekend, and holiday games)
Strong communication skills
Excellent attention to detail


$18 per hour
