Are you a leader with a strong understanding of summer day camp operations? Are you organized, communicative, and able to lead and inspire others?

Cary is seeking Summer Day Camp Leads to serve as the head staff on site for each of our summer day camps, ensuring that our camps are both safe and fun for every camper. This position will oversee the day-to-day operation of camp at either Bond Park Community Center or Mills Park Elementary and will play a critical role in providing high-quality camp experiences for our citizens. Beginning in April, Camp Leads will take an active role in planning camps and designing camp staff training. Camp Leads will then help facilitate staff training in May and supervise camp June-August.

Camp locations include Bond Park Community Center and Mills Park Elementary.

This is a seasonal (April-August), non-benefited position, up to 40 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours.

Typical Tasks



  • Oversees day-to-day operations of assigned camp location;

  • Ensures that camp staff are communicating information with parents on any schedule changes, concerns, achievements or disciplinary issues;

  • Ensures camp guidelines and policies are followed;

  • Collaborates with camp leadership to plan major programs, events, and trips;

  • Assists with the development and implementation of staff trainings and meetings;

  • Manages camp leadership staff schedules;

  • Coaches staff and completes staff evaluations;

  • Ensures that daily cleaning schedule is followed and assists with cleaning when needed;

  • Mediates camper disciplinary issues and completes any necessary paperwork;

  • Collaborates with full-time and part-time inclusion staff about any camper needs;

  • Drives a town 15-passenger vehicle or smaller;

  • Performs other job-related tasks as required.


 
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment. 

Requires a valid driver's license and acceptable driving history.

Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years old
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree with major course work in recreation management, physical education, elementary/middle/high school education, or a related field
Requires at least three years or three summer seasons working as a camp counselor, camp administrator, teacher, or similar position
CPR and First-aid Certification preferred; training opportunities available.
