POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Team Coordinator will be responsible for the safety and education of swimmers enrolled in the varying YMCA Swim Team programs. 


Other duties include maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas as well as clear and concise communication around Swim Meets to parents, participants, volunteers and other swim teams.


They are responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices in accordance with program objectives, guidelines, and policies including attendance records, skill reviews and training plans.

  • Provides vision and leadership to the part time staff that includes coaching and leadership traits to ensure a high quality swim program.

  • Leads implementation of open, clear, consistent and effective communication with athletes, parents, branch staff, volunteers and coaches about meets, practice schedules, and other announcements throughout the entire season.

  • Manages the Swimmingly software for the competitive swim season ensuring meets are correctly set up, Swimmers are registered and program is correctly implemented at Swim Meets.

  • Attends Swim Meets as assigned as well as being responsible for the planning, communication, and prior set up ahead of the Meet.

  • Assist with properly staffing Swim Meets by actively recruiting parent volunteer support.

  • Ensure clear communication with other teams participating in the Swim Meet so all details are given for any Home Swim Meets.

  • Efficient wrap of Swim Meets to include recording details of Meet, ribbons distributed, and explanations of Swimmer disqualifications are given.

  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor. 


 


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High School Diploma/GED and 2-3 years of related experience preferred.

  • Minimum 1 year or more of coaching experience, swimming experience, or experience related to the sport of swimming.

  • Experience leading others, volunteer cultivation and staff development.

  • Must be professional, courteous and friendly, have a high level of initiative and be a self-starter.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, be well organized, and be able to respond appropriately in a dynamic, fluid environment.

  • Able to determine and set priorities, as well as the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.

  • Must maintain necessary certifications including but not limited to Basic Life Support and First Aid, USA Swimming Certification, and YMCA Principals of Competitive Swimming and Diving.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Multi-lingual desired, but not required.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.

  • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.

  • Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
