This position is perfect for someone with an engineering, geographic information systems or environmental science background that is interested in getting their foot in the door in the Utility Industry with a reputable company that supports Duke Energy projects.


Our client focuses on Distribution work in the utility industry, and is looking for entry to mid level Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil engineers and Environmental Science majors that are interested in the North Carolina market. Duties will ultimately be assigned based on skill level and background.


Basic responsibilities include:


•        Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.


•        Compares as-builts to Duke's internal GIS platform to identify discrepancies. 


Candidates will be trained by two senior level distribution engineers.


•        Will perform engineering calculations that may include: structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.


•        Each project could also include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, development of a BOM, estimating costs, etc.


•        90% of the day will be design development and coordination. 10% they may be required to go out in the field.


•        Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.


•        Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures.


•        Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.


•        Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.

Qualifications
Total of 2 years of internship and/or work experience preferred.
