Description

The N.C. Forest Service (NCFS) is pleased to once again offer a paid internship during the summer of 2021.
The intern will work one month each with the NCFS’s Water Resources Branch, Forest Management Branch
and Urban & Community Forestry Branch. There will also be opportunities to work with our Technical
Development and Planning Branch, Nursery & Tree Improvement Program and Bladen Lakes State Forest.
Goals will include assisting with a wide range of projects while simultaneously becoming familiar with the
NCFS’s forestry programs and services. Occasional travel outside the Raleigh area will occur so the intern may
participate in forestry outreach meetings, fieldwork, partner discussions, etc.


Duty locations: Archdale Building in downtown Raleigh; tele-working will be incorporated based on COVID-
19 conditions


Anticipated start date: Mid-May, 2021 Anticipated end date: Early to mid-August, 2021
Preferences: Students in a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited forestry curriculum in their junior
or senior years. Students in related curriculums (ex. Natural Resources; Environmental Technology &
Management; Fisheries, Wildlife & Conservation Biology) may also be considered. The 2021 internship is not
open to previous NCFS summer interns. Individuals that may represent groups currently under-represented in
the NCFS’s workforce are strongly encouraged to apply.
