Description

This is a seasonal position working in the Coweeta LTER which is located in Otto, North Carolina. Responsibilities include: extraction and safe-handling of birds captured using mist nets, banding, color-banding, various sample collection techniques, avian surveys, assisting with an ongoing malaise project, and recording and checking data acquired in the field.
Qualifications
Experience handling and mist-netting birds; hiking and navigating independently in rugged terrain, familiarity with basic computer programs used for data entry. Bachelor’s in wildlife sciences (or related field); can be in progress; and/or handling avian species. This position involves hiking early in the morning through rugged terrain at high elevations in cool and wet conditions, and in the presence of insects for multiple hours each day. Individuals should be able to carry field equipment (<30 pounds) and hike in these conditions comfortably.
