Student Conservation Assistant (6 positions)
Natural resources conservation organizations (federal, state or private) in Mississippi.
Applicants will be assigned to an organization, but preferences will be considered.
Seasonal, full-time /part-time options may be an option in special cases.
Negotiable, approximately May 11, 2021– July 31, 2021
The student conservation assistants will collaborate with a conservation organization in
their outreach to and technical support of private land conservation. This may include
landowner consultations, site visits, or land management implementation; assisting with
educational programing, planning, or contract work; production of materials in support
of private land conservation, and other related duties.
Enrolled in or recently completed a wildlife, agriculture, forestry, or other natural
resource-related course of study. Interest in and knowledge of conservation, ecology,
soils, private land management, or native ecosystem restoration is preferred.
Preference will be given to students with previous experience in habitat management,
outreach education, or soil conservation and a strong academic background.
Applicants must be: physically capable of outdoor work during hot, humid, summer
conditions; able to follow directions, work independently, respect private property and
rules, and maintain a positive attitude; in possession of a valid driver’s license.
$10.10/hr. In most cases, free or reduced-price housing will be provided.
